A Green’s-function framework based on real-space dynamical embedding is presented for first-principles simulations of superconducting proximity effects at interfaces. The method treats normal and anomalous renormalizations on equal footing and addresses the mesoscopic length scales and small energy scales characteristic of the effect without explicitly modeling thick slabs.

Total x-ray scattering, structural modeling, and density functional theory calculations are used to investigate the relationship between local lattice distortions and the electronic structure of the spin-orbit-coupled Mott-like insulator Sr2IrO4. Local lattice distortions, arising from the presence of two distinct IrO6 octahedral layers without a reduction of the average crystal symmetry, are identified, and their temperature evolution is shown to be consistent with the observed enhancement of the electronic band gap.

Generalized cross-resonance scheme for maximally entangling two-qutrit gates

The cross-resonance scheme is extended to multilevel quantum systems, enabling direct entangling operations on the 1–2 levels of fixed-frequency transmon qutrits. Numerical simulations demonstrate parametric gates that span the complete two-qutrit Hilbert space and prepare high-fidelity Bell state.

Many-body quantum optics in a Bose-Hubbard waveguide

How do quantum emitters behave when coupled to a Bose-Hubbard waveguide populated by repulsively interacting photons? This work shows that photon-photon interactions can trigger a superradiant burst at fixed emitter spacing and frequency, while coherent emitter interactions persist over long distances in the superfluid regime but become short-ranged in the Mott regime.
