Aims
PRResearch is a peer-reviewed, international, multidisciplinary journal covering all research topics of interest to physicists and researchers in related fields. It complements other titles in the portfolio by offering an option for authors across the physics community who value and trust the publishing experience and quality of Physical Review journals, and also want or need to publish in a fully open access publication.
The open access publishing model supports the goals of the journal—to broadly disseminate high-quality research from all of physics, the physical sciences, and interdisciplinary areas to a global audience, with the intention of initiating conversations across traditional boundaries, facilitating new opportunities for collaboration, and enabling future discoveries.
By advancing and disseminating scientific research and discovery, promoting physics, and serving the broader physics community, PRResearch will directly support the mission of APS.

Like all of the journals in the Physical Review family, PRResearch is shaped by researchers to serve the research community. This ensures that its mission, standards, and policies prioritize the needs of researchers and the broader scientific community; this commitment is reinforced by APS’s promise as a founding member of the Purpose-Led Publishing coalition.
Submitted manuscripts should meet the following criteria:
- Add to the existing knowledge related to a particular field of research with a connection to physics.
- Make a high-quality, significant contribution and generate interest for readers with a connection to physics
- Represent an authoritative and substantive addition to the body of literature
- This journal is funded through article publication charges (APCs), which are due once an article is accepted for publication.
- All articles are published with an open CC-BY (4.0 International) license with authors retaining copyright. This license permits anyone to copy, distribute, transmit, and adapt the work with proper attribution. APS reviews APCs regularly to ensure that it offers a reasonable and cost-effective publishing option for authors in line with APS’s status as a not-for-profit society publisher.
- APS authors are free to post the final version of their articles on their laboratory, institutional or departmental web sites.
- APS offers authors from lower-income countries the opportunity to publish open access at no cost by automatically offering APC waivers for articles accepted into all hybrid and gold open access titles. Learn more here.
PRResearch is now indexed in several critical outlets, offering further dissemination of all published papers. Find PRResearch in:
SCOPUS - Elsevier’s source-neutral abstract and indexing database, curated by independent subject matter experts. By having content included in Scopus, scholarly publishers make their content discoverable at over 7000 of the world’s top research institutions. Content in Scopus is linked through citation mapping, so that users can see who cited a piece of content or look at what an author may have referenced to support her or his research.
The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) - An independent database containing over 16,500 peer-reviewed open access journals covering all areas of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, arts and humanities.
PRResearch has been submitted for inclusion in the Journal Citation Reports from Clarivate Analytics Web of Science. It is currently included in the Emerging Sources Citation Index.
Editorial Board
The Editorial board of Physical Review Research is a diverse, global group of active, distinguished scientists, selected by editors and appointed by the Executive Editor. Board members advise the editorial staff throughout the review and formal appeal processes.
Editorial Team
PRResearch is managed by a professional editorial team of Ph.D. scientists with extensive research experience at major academic institutions and research laboratories around the world. All editorial decisions are based on PRResearch acceptance criteria.

Editorial and Publishing Policies
All journals published by APS follow a common set of Editorial Policies and Practices, which cover Editorial Oversight and Decision Making, Authorship, Submissions, Resubmissions, and Transfers, Peer Review, Ethics and Research Integrity, Post Publication, and Open Access and Publications Rights.
PRResearch is published electronically one article at a time. Articles are identified by volume number and a six-digit article number, for example, Journal 1, XXXXXX (2020).
PRResearch editors can decide to accelerate the review process for a small number of manuscripts that report particularly important or groundbreaking research.
