This paper presents a description of the dynamics of a molecular motor as a Brownian particle diffusing through a set of potential wells. The authors identify two characteristic time scales: a residence time in a well and a stepping time between wells. They observe an enhancement of diffusion when these two times are comparable and propose that this could be an explanation for a similar phenomenon recently observed experimentally.

It is a counterintuitive fact that charged particles of the same sign can form cohesive aggregates instead of flying apart. By numerically solving the Poisson equation, the authors show that the essential features for such cohesive aggregates are strong heterogeneity in charge and induced polarization. This work studies a simplified version of an aggregate with unevenly charged particles, as a first step before modeling real particle behavior.

This paper presents results of x-ray Thomson scattering on a plasma in the warm dense matter regime. The experiment generates a uniform sample with a long duration in time, which represents an advance in experimental studies of this regime. The analysis also reveals shortcomings in previous theoretical approaches and shows that this experimental technique is suitable for measuring the relevant plasma conditions.

Predictive density gradient theory based on nonlocal density functional theory

This paper presents a computationally efficient approach for calculating interfacial properties of liquids. Calculations of surface tension for a variety of pure components and binary mixtures agree well with experiment and with density functional theory calculations. The significant gain in computational speed should make this predictive density gradient model useful for a number of applications.

It is a counterintuitive fact that charged particles of the same sign can form cohesive aggregates instead of flying apart. By numerically solving the Poisson equation, the authors show that the essential features for such cohesive aggregates are strong heterogeneity in charge and induced polarization. This work studies a simplified version of an aggregate with unevenly charged particles, as a first step before modeling real particle behavior.

This paper presents results of x-ray Thomson scattering on a plasma in the warm dense matter regime. The experiment generates a uniform sample with a long duration in time, which represents an advance in experimental studies of this regime. The analysis also reveals shortcomings in previous theoretical approaches and shows that this experimental technique is suitable for measuring the relevant plasma conditions.

This paper presents a computationally efficient approach for calculating interfacial properties of liquids. Calculations of surface tension for a variety of pure components and binary mixtures agree well with experiment and with density functional theory calculations. The significant gain in computational speed should make this predictive density gradient model useful for a number of applications.
