Stable glassy configurations can be generated numerically at a low computational cost, through the minimization of an enhanced potential where the particle radii are used as additional degrees of freedom. The authors obtain similar configurations to those published in the literature and study some of their structural and mechanical properties.

The authors studied the phase evolution of breathers in two different systems: hydrodynamic waves in a water tank and light waves in a single-mode fiber. In both cases, their experimental results confirm several theoretical predictions regarding phase shifts between the central peak and the continuous background. Applications of the work to other systems are suggested.
