Statistical Physics Meets Machine Learning - Machine Learning Meets Statistical Physics
The Editors of Physical Review E are pleased to present the Collection on Statistical Physics Meets Machine Learning - Machine Learning Meets Statistical Physics, highlighting research at the intersection of machine learning and statistical physics, on the occasion of the two Statistical Physics Meets Machine Learning and the two Machine Learning Meets Statistical Physics sessions at the 2025 Global Physics Summit. The Collection is being guest edited by David Schwab (CUNY, New York) and Yuhai Tu (IBM Watson Research Center Yorktown Heights, NY). Every article published in this collection underwent a rigorous peer review process, adhering to the same high standards applied to all papers. The Physical Review E editorial team managed the peer review and made all editorial decisions.
Physics in a Changing Climate
Climate Science is a growing field that is attracting colleagues from many disciplines. This Collection, a joint effort by Physical Review E, Physical Review Research, and PRX Energy curated by Prof. Justin Burton from Emory University, aims at providing a survey of the diverse range of topics that scientists with a connection to Physics are exploring in this exciting area of research. This includes climate and related geosciences, sustainability, energy, and material science, and may include fundamental as well as applied research.
Every article in this Collection was subjected to a rigorous peer review process, upholding the high standards applied to all papers. The Physical Review E, Physical Review Research, and PRX Energy editorial teams managed the peer review and made all editorial decisions.

Physical Review E 25th Anniversary Milestones
The year 2018 marks the 25th anniversary of Physical Review E. To celebrate the journal’s rich legacy, during the upcoming year we highlight a series of papers that made important contributions to their field. These milestone articles were nominated by members of the Editorial Board of Physical Review E, in collaboration with the journal’s editors. The 25 milestone articles, including an article for each calendar year from 1993 through 2017 and spanning all major subject areas of the journal, will be unveiled in chronological order and will be featured on the journal website.
PRE Milestones
Physical Review E published its 50,000th paper in September 2015. To celebrate this, the journal presents a series of milestone papers that were published since its inception in 1993. This is an eclectic collection of papers that made significant contributions to their field, chosen by the editors. A new milestone will be added each week.
