Dark matter decaying in the late Universe can relieve the H0 tension

Kyriakos Vattis, Savvas M. Koushiappas, and Abraham Loeb

Phys. Rev. D 99, 121302(R) (2019) - Published 10 June, 2019

One of the most intriguing current puzzles in cosmology is the discrepancy in the present values of the Hubble constant H0, obtained either from direct model-independent distance measurements or from the CMB, i.e. its value about 13 billion years ago and interpreted through the standard model of cosmology (ΛCDM). The authors outline a scenario based on dark matter decays in the late time Universe, which is potentially testable with near future surveys, that can eliminate this discrepancy.

Diamond detectors for direct detection of sub-GeV dark matter

Noah Kurinsky, To Chin Yu, Yonit Hochberg, and Blas Cabrera

Phys. Rev. D 99, 123005 (2019) - Published 10 June, 2019

This paper explores in detail the potential for sub-GeV dark matter detection using lab-grown diamond. The authors find comparable performance to other semiconductor technologies, such as Ge and Si, for nuclear and electronic recoils, with the ability to explore parameter space not covered by existing experiments. Possible advantages for diamond are discussed.

Dark Energy Survey year 1 results: Constraints on extended cosmological models from galaxy clustering and weak lensing

T. M. C. Abbott et al. (DES Collaboration)

Phys. Rev. D 99, 123505 (2019) - Published 7 June, 2019

This paper, using the Dark Energy Survey (DES) year 1 data, together with external data, seeks to constrain several extensions to LCDM models, that include adding extra relativistic degrees of freedom, curvature, a time dependent dark energy equation of state and modified gravity. The conclusion is that only the constraints on the parameters of modified gravity benefit significantly from including the DES year 1 data, making these consistent with predictions from general relativity.

Asymptotic structure of electromagnetism in higher spacetime dimensions

Marc Henneaux and Cédric Troessaert

Phys. Rev. D 99, 125006 (2019) - Published 10 June, 2019

The authors provide a detailed and rigorous study of the asymptotic structure and boundary conditions for electromagnetism in higher spacetime dimensions (D>4), and construct the associated asymptotic symmetries and its algebra. What sets out to be a trivial generalization of the four-dimensional case reveals a surprising additional u(1)-symmetry as soon as the spacetime dimension is larger than four.

Phys.
