Distinguishing viscous, ballistic, and diffusive current flows in anisotropic metals

Viscous electron hydrodynamics in high quality metals has been the subject of intense experimental activity in recent years. This has been aided by the experimental development of new imaging methods that allow for direct and noninvasive imaging of electronic flows in metals. In this work, the authors show that the diffusive, viscious, and ballistic regimes in anisotropic metals can be cleanly distinguished using a single image. They propose ABA-trilayer graphene as a natural experimental platform, where the ballistic-to-viscous crossover can be observed in near-term experiments.

The accommodation of Luttinger liquid behavior and unique quasiparticles in the charge density wave (CDW) state has led to renewed interest in the low-dimensional molybdenum bronzes. Here, the authors report a comprehensive experimental study on the quasi-two-dimensional CDW oxide bronzes Mo4O11, in which the CDW instability is dominated by hidden Fermi surface nesting, resulting in magnetic field induced quantum oscillations. Different from the monoclinic η phase, the orthorhombic γ phase shows a flexible CDW transition with a nearly fully opened gap, as seen in nonlinear transport behavior related to the CDW sliding motion, which is only observed in quasi-one-dimensional systems.

Coulomb interactions strongly influence the energy spectrum and wave functions of few electrons or holes in single quantum dots. Indeed, for weak confinement potentials, the Coulomb repulsion splits apart the particles, leading to the formation of Wigner molecules. Here, the authors discuss how the confinement anisotropy favors the molecularization and compare the impact on readout and exchange interactions for spin qubits in different semiconductor materials.

All-electrical control of hole singlet-triplet spin qubits at low-leakage points

Hole spin qubits in semiconductors are in the midst of revolutionizing solid-state quantum information processing, and different setups are being investigated to further improve their quality. In this work, the authors demonstrate that the interplay between the spin-orbit interaction and site-dependent g tensors of holes confined in a double quantum dot enables all-electrical orthogonal two-axis control of hole singlet-triplet qubits. Remarkably, leakage errors can be strongly suppressed at the same time by choosing an optimal direction of the external magnetic field.

Hole spin qubits in semiconductors are in the midst of revolutionizing solid-state quantum information processing, and different setups are being investigated to further improve their quality. In this work, the authors demonstrate that the interplay between the spin-orbit interaction and site-dependent g tensors of holes confined in a double quantum dot enables all-electrical orthogonal two-axis control of hole singlet-triplet qubits. Remarkably, leakage errors can be strongly suppressed at the same time by choosing an optimal direction of the external magnetic field.
