Viscous electron hydrodynamics in high quality metals has been the subject of intense experimental activity in recent years. This has been aided by the experimental development of new imaging methods that allow for direct and noninvasive imaging of electronic flows in metals. In this work, the authors show that the diffusive, viscious, and ballistic regimes in anisotropic metals can be cleanly distinguished using a single image. They propose ABA-trilayer graphene as a natural experimental platform, where the ballistic-to-viscous crossover can be observed in near-term experiments.

The accommodation of Luttinger liquid behavior and unique quasiparticles in the charge density wave (CDW) state has led to renewed interest in the low-dimensional molybdenum bronzes. Here, the authors report a comprehensive experimental study on the quasi-two-dimensional CDW oxide bronzes MoO, in which the CDW instability is dominated by hidden Fermi surface nesting, resulting in magnetic field induced quantum oscillations. Different from the monoclinic phase, the orthorhombic phase shows a flexible CDW transition with a nearly fully opened gap, as seen in nonlinear transport behavior related to the CDW sliding motion, which is only observed in quasi-one-dimensional systems.
