Characterization of a quasistatic environment with a qubit

Fattah Sakuldee and Łukasz Cywiński

Phys. Rev. A 99, 062113 (2019) - Published 20 June, 2019

The problem of gaining information about a qubit’s environment by a sequence of single-shot projective measurements applied to the qubit is analyzed in detail. The theory is applied to the case of NV centers, and it is found that recent results from the literature can be explained by classical concepts.

Quantum sketching protocols for Hamming distance and beyond

João Fernando Doriguello and Ashley Montanaro

Phys. Rev. A 99, 062331 (2019) - Published 24 June, 2019

Comparing data is ubiquitous in communication, and quantum protocols like quantum fingerprinting provide an exponential advantage in the complexity of equality testing. In this work, a quantum protocol for approximately computing another comparison measure, the Hamming distance, up to low relative error, is developed.

Photoionization and photofragmentation of singly charged positive and negative Sc3N@C80 endohedral fullerene ions

Phys. Rev. A 99, 063401 (2019) - Published 3 June, 2019

A comprehensive experimental and theoretical study of the effects of the encapsulated cluster on the photoionization and photofragmentation of endohedral fullerene ions is presented. Among many other results, it is found that theoretically predicted narrow autoionizing Sc resonances in the photoionization cross section could not be confirmed.

Spin-energy correlation in degenerate weakly interacting Fermi gases

S. Pegahan, J. Kangara, I. Arakelyan, and J. E. Thomas

Phys. Rev. A 99, 063620 (2019) - Published 20 June, 2019

The time evolution of spin-energy correlations in a very weakly interacting Fermi gas of 6Li produces complex spin-density profiles, which are observed and quantitatively explained by a one-dimensional mean-field model. This system exhibits rich collective dynamics for exploring the interplay between spin, motion, Fermi statistics, and interactions in many-body systems.

Coupled superfluidity of binary Bose mixtures in two dimensions

Volker Karle, Nicolò Defenu, and Tilman Enss

Phys. Rev. A 99, 063627 (2019) - Published 28 June, 2019

The superfluidity properties of a two-component bosonic mixture with short-range repulsive interactions are investigated. The results suggest that the presence of different topological excitations can lead to coupled superfluidity in both components, with both critical temperatures locked to a unique value.
