Collapse models, proposed to explain the absence of quantum superpositions at macroscopic scales, generically predict the existence of random forces on a massive object. Here, detection of levitated particle motion is explored though three different approaches based on an optical cavity, an optical tweezer, and an electrical readout exploiting a SQUID. These approaches are analyzed and compared, and the advantages, drawbacks, and technical challenges are assessed.

Calculations of the two-electron QED recoil contributions to the binding energies of few-electron ions are extended to the limit of interelectronic-interaction correction, i.e., surpassing the standard independent-electron approximation. The results will allow one to improve the theoretical accuracy of the mass shift calculations in highly charged ions, helping to solve discrepancies between high-precision measurements and theoretical predictions.

Dilute quantum gases offer a controllable platform for investigating quantum liquids, such as superfluid helium, in which correlations and fluctuations are encoded in the form of a quasiparticle energy (i.e., roton-maxon) dispersion. An approach to extracting the roton-maxon spectrum of a Bose-Einstein condensate is theoretically developed: the method relies on using an external one-dimensional optical lattice that effectively controls the response of the system, giving access to its elementary excitations.

Hollow-core fibers filled with a cloud of cold atoms are an excellent platform for the generation of strong light-matter coupling. A theoretical investigation shows that, by applying an optimal one-photon detuning, one can mitigate effects that are detrimental to the interaction, such as frequency-dependent lensing and distortions of the probe laser beam.

Dilute quantum gases offer a controllable platform for investigating quantum liquids, such as superfluid helium, in which correlations and fluctuations are encoded in the form of a quasiparticle energy (i.e., roton-maxon) dispersion. An approach to extracting the roton-maxon spectrum of a Bose-Einstein condensate is theoretically developed: the method relies on using an external one-dimensional optical lattice that effectively controls the response of the system, giving access to its elementary excitations.
