A one-dimensional Fermi-Hubbard-Harper model for interacting fermions in a one-dimensional lattice is thoroughly investigated. By using density-matrix renormalization-group techniques, a grand-canonical phase diagram is constructed and various types of phases are identified and explored. Topological phase transitions are studied and are predicted to leave clear fingerprints in charge-pump experiments.
