Elastic rate coefficients for Li+H2 collisions in the calibration of a cold-atom vacuum standard

Constantinos Makrides, Daniel S. Barker, James A. Fedchak, Julia Scherschligt, Stephen Eckel, and Eite Tiesinga

Phys. Rev. A 99, 042704 (2019) - Published 29 April, 2019

A coupled-channel calculation is carried out to compute rate coefficients for elastic collisions of room-temperature molecular hydrogen with ultracold lithium atoms. The results are relevant for the calibration of a planned cold-atom vacuum standard device that utilizes the rate of collisional loss of trapped atoms to measure background-gas pressures in the UHV and XHV regimes.

Effects of tunneling and multiphoton transitions on squeezed-state generation in bistable driven systems

Natalya S. Maslova, Evgeny V. Anikin, Nikolay A. Gippius, and Igor M. Sokolov

Phys. Rev. A 99, 043802 (2019) - Published 3 April, 2019

Nonequilibrium properties of bistable driven nonlinear oscillators are thoroughly examined, showing how the interplay between noise-induced transitions and quantum tunneling can influence the generation of squeezed states. The results are useful for fundamental studies of the quantum-to-classical transition and applications that require the control and manipulation of bistable systems, like those based on optoelectronic devices.

Optimal synchronization deep in the quantum regime: Resource and fundamental limit

Martin Koppenhöfer and Alexandre Roulet

Phys. Rev. A 99, 043804 (2019) - Published 4 April, 2019

A comprehensive analytical investigation of synchronization is presented. The framework helps in understanding the fundamental limit and resource for synchronization in the smallest possible quantum system to display this effect, a spin 1.
