Deuteron charge radius from the Lamb-shift measurement in muonic deuterium

Marcin Kalinowski

Phys. Rev. A 99, 030501(R) (2019) - Published 21 March, 2019

A discrepancy in the determination of the deuteron charge radius is solved by taking into account the modification of nuclear-structure effects by the electron vacuum polarization. The result indicates that the muonic measurements of the nuclear charge radii are correct and the discrepancy in the proton charge radius comes exclusively from an underestimated uncertainty in ordinary hydrogen spectroscopy.

Phys. Rev. A 99, 032314 (2019) - Published 11 March, 2019

Most post-quantum-cryptography schemes rely on the fact that learning noisy functions is hard, even for quantum computers. However, this task is easy if quantum data is provided, which poses interesting consequences in the area of cryptography.

Modeling light shifts in optical lattice clocks

Phys. Rev. A 99, 033424 (2019) - Published 28 March, 2019

A model for the unavoidable lattice-induced light shifts of the clock frequency in optical lattice clocks is presented that is applicable to a wide range of operating conditions. Application of the model to existing ytterbium clocks brings the corresponding frequency uncertainties down into the 1018 regime.

Quantum dynamics of disordered spin chains with power-law interactions

Phys. Rev. A 99, 033610 (2019) - Published 15 March, 2019

A powerful numerical algorithm is used to characterize the emergence of many-body localization in long-range interacting systems. The interplay between disorder and power-law interactions is analyzed, confirming the existence of a transition from a thermal phase to a localized one.

Bidirectional universal dynamics in a spinor Bose gas close to a nonthermal fixed point

Christian-Marcel Schmied, Maximilian Prüfer, Markus K. Oberthaler, and Thomas Gasenzer

Phys. Rev. A 99, 033611 (2019) - Published 18 March, 2019

The universal scaling of macroscopic observables tells us about the loss of information on initial conditions and microscopic system properties. By studying the time evolution of an isolated spinor Bose gas after a sudden quench into a magnetically ordered phase, it is numerically shown that universal scaling evolution at a nonthermal fixed point is possible in a purely one-dimensional geometry.

Phys. Rev. A 99, 033612 (2019) - Published 18 March, 2019

Ultracold atoms offer a controlled platform for investigating quantum magnetism; however, stepping into integer-spin territory is not trivial. Now an experimental technique to measure the relative interaction strength amongst hyperfine states is demonstrated, paving the way to study quantum phase transitions.

Phase shift in atom interferometers: Corrections for nonquadratic potentials and finite-duration laser pulses

A. Bertoldi, F. Minardi, and M. Prevedelli

Phys. Rev. A 99, 033619 (2019) - Published 25 March, 2019

Atom interferometry is made more accurate by removing commonly employed approximations. A detailed model that includes the effect of Earth’s gravitational potential and the duration of laser pulses is introduced, leading to interferometers with improved sensitivity.

Quantum regression theorem for out-of-time-ordered correlation functions

Philip Daniel Blocher and Klaus Mølmer

Phys. Rev. A 99, 033816 (2019) - Published 7 March, 2019

Out-of-time-ordered correlation functions, relevant for, e.g., diagnosing scrambling and spreading of quantum information, are investigated in open quantum systems. A unified theoretical model is established to connect this quantity with feasible experimental observables.

Phys. Rev. A 99, 033832 (2019) - Published 18 March, 2019

A method to reconstruct single and dual temporal modes of non-Gaussian states is devised and experimentally tested. The idea is based on principal component analysis and a dual homodyne measurement, allowing the measurement of complex temporal modes.

Phys.
