The PRX Energy Collection on the Physics and Control of Energy Systems showcases physics-informed (and physics-inspired) methods for energy systems — including power and natural gas transmission, distribution, and generation — with an emphasis on control, optimization, reliability, and resilience under uncertainty. It includes contributions that (i) translate concepts from statistical physics, dynamical systems, stochastic processes, information theory, and control/optimization into deployable methods; (ii) demonstrate rigorous theory coupled with realistic models, datasets, or test systems; and (iii) clarify how physical structure improves performance, interpretability, and robustness. Application areas include grid and gas operations, renewables and storage integration, probabilistic security, market–control co-design, cyber-physical security, and advanced sensing/estimation.

The Collection is being guest-edited by Michael (Misha) Chertkov from the University of Arizona, Philippe Jacquod from the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland, and Mert Korkali from the University of Missouri. Every article in this Collection is subject to a rigorous peer review process, upholding the high standards applied to all papers in the journal.
