PRX celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2021. The Editors and Editorial Board naturally reflected upon the journal’s accomplishments and our aspirations for its future. In its first decade, PRX has distinguished itself by publishing landmark theoretical papers, prized for their conceptual and technical depth. In the next decade, we would like to extend PRX’s impact with more groundbreaking experimental papers among its publications.

We are proud of the recent experimental papers we have published. Indeed, nearly half of our recent papers now include a significant experimental component. We think that by sharing some highlights from the anniversary year, we might inspire the broad physics community to contribute to PRX more exceptional experimental research. To that end, we are happy to announce a new Collection focusing on experimental statistical, biological, and soft-matter physics.

This small Collection of eight papers spans a remarkably broad range of topics and scientific purposes. While Martín-González et al. [PRX 11, 021025 (2021)] revealed the microscopic disassembly of individual viruses during infection, Kim et al. [PRX 11, 031004 (2021)] introduced a novel approach to assess macroscopic interfacial properties of soft solids. While Rico-Pasto et al. [PRX 11, 031052 (2021)] investigated fundamental thermodynamics at the nanoscale, Grosser et al. [PRX 11, 011033 (2021)] exploited the physics of cell jamming for cancer diagnostics. While Hunter et al. [PRX 11, 021066 (2021)] and Harmand et al. [PRX 11, 031028 (2021)] revealed collective phenomena in systems of living cells with a view toward understanding their biological relevance, Chardac et al. [PRX 11, 031069 (2021)] employed artificial “flocks” of active colloids to gain fundamental understanding. Exploiting the random trajectories of single colloidal particles, Gladrow et al. [PRX 11, 031022 (2021)] introduced a versatile and powerful experimental framework to concretely measure fundamental stochastic quantities.

We think that these diverse examples of superb articles concretely embody PRX’s editorial vision for experimental physics. We hope that they will engage and inspire you.
