First observation of a flux-vortex lattice in the high-T_c superconductor La_1.83 Sr_0.17 CuO₄, using small-angle neutron scattering. As an applied magnetic field is increased, the lattice changes from triangular (not shown) to square (a). Then, as the c axis of the crystal is rotated away from the magnetic field, the square lattice distorts to rhomboid (b).
