Pressure-induced Transition of the Sublattice Magnetization in : Change from Local Moment to Itinerant Magnetism

Abstract
Antiferromagnetism in ( -type structure) is due to ordering of the sublattice moments while the sublattice does not carry any magnetic moment. undergoes a pressure-induced isostructural phase transition at . Eu high-pressure Mössbauer experiments reveal a valence transition of Eu from to nonmagnetic at with the consequence that the disappearance of the sublattice magnetism is accompanied by a simultaneous appearance of sublattice magnetism . The latter is explained by the filling of the states.
