One-loop divergences for f(R) gravity

Michael S. Ruf and Christian F. Steinwachs

Phys. Rev. D 97, 044049 (2018) - Published 28 February, 2018

In the first paper, the one loop divergence structure of F(R) gravity theories is computed by integrating out fluctuations of the metric about an arbitrary metric background, yielding novel background independent results. In the second paper, these results are employed to rigorously demonstrate the exact equality of the one loop on shell divergences of F(R) and scalar-tensor theories of gravity, thereby advancing the proof of equivalence of the two.

Toward de Sitter space from ten dimensions

Jakob Moritz, Ander Retolaza, and Alexander Westphal

Phys. Rev. D 97, 046010 (2018) - Published 22 February, 2018

The authors study the problem of obtaining observationally favored de Sitter vacua (i.e. a positive cosmological constant) in string theory and show that the standard construction (“KKLT”) fails in general. Generalizing ideas from cosmological inflation to ten dimensions provides additional conditions, such that in these cases the KKLT-construction leads to stable de Sitter vacua.

Phys.
