First detection of cosmic microwave background lensing and Lyman-α forest bispectrum

Cyrille Doux, Emmanuel Schaan, Eric Aubourg, Ken Ganga, Khee-Gan Lee, David N. Spergel, and Julien Tréguer

Phys. Rev. D 94, 103506 (2016) - Published 9 November, 2016

A correlation between the cosmic microwave background and hydrogen absorption lines may reveal a connection between dark matter and intergalactic gas clouds.

Towards generating a new supernova equation of state: A systematic analysis of cold hybrid stars

Oliver Heinimann, Matthias Hempel, and Friedrich-Karl Thielemann

Phys. Rev. D 94, 103008 (2016) - Published 18 November, 2016

In this paper, cold hybrid stars have been analyzed to develop a new hybrid supernova equation of state. The authors find promising cases where the hadron quark phase transition in core collapse supernovae (CCSN) can support the observational 2 solar mass neutron star mass constraint and yet trigger explosions in the CCSN.

Matter-neutrino resonance transitions above a neutron star merger remnant

Y. L. Zhu (朱勇霖), A. Perego, and G. C. McLaughlin

Phys. Rev. D 94, 105006 (2016) - Published 10 November, 2016

This paper performs a study of the matter neutrino resonance (MNR) phenomenon in neutron star mergers based on a model employing three dimensional merger simulations. MNRs alter the neutrino flavor content, potentially influencing the neutrino dynamics and electromagnetic emission from the remnants, and could have broad ramifications in diverse fields, including high energy astrophysics.

Remarks on the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model

Juan Maldacena and Douglas Stanford

Phys. Rev. D 94, 106002 (2016) - Published 4 November, 2016

The authors study in detail the quantum mechanical model of N Majorana fermions with random interactions of a few fermions at a time (Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model) in the large N limit. At low energies, the system is strongly interacting and an emergent conformal symmetry develops. Performing technical calculations, the authors elucidate a number of properties of the model near the conformal point.

Evolution of segmented strings

Steven S. Gubser

Phys. Rev. D 94, 106007 (2016) - Published 14 November, 2016

The author derives (algebraic) evolution laws for segmented strings in flat and hyperbolic (AdS) spaces in terms of discrete hops which do not require a continuum spacetime, reflecting a certain discreteness as suggested by the finite entropy across a unit spacetime area. In such a discrete setting the firewall paradox of black holes is avoided by a curious mechanism.
