Constraints on the ηη decay rate of a scalar glueball from gauge/gravity duality

Frederic Brünner and Anton Rebhan

Phys. Rev. D 92, 121902(R) (2015) - Published 28 December, 2015

The authors apply holography, the Witten-Sagai-Sugimoto model, to glueball decays, and argue that a particular meson, f0(1710), is favored to be a nearly unmixed glueball. They show that flavor asymmetries which are observed experimentally in the decay of the f0(1710) can be explained naturally by symmetry breaking terms, and predict further tests of the model.

POLARBEAR constraints on cosmic birefringence and primordial magnetic fields

Peter A. R. Ade et al. (Polarbear Collaboration)

Phys. Rev. D 92, 123509 (2015) - Published 8 December, 2015

The POLARBEAR experiment has set new upper limits on parity violating processes or the existence of an equivalent primordial magnetic field. These would induce anisotropic cosmic birefringence, which convert parity-even (E-modes) to parity-odd (B-modes) of the polarized component of the cosmic microwave background anisotropy. The new limits are important for further constraining models of the early Universe.

Scalar field critical collapse in 2+1 dimensions

Joanna Jałmużna, Carsten Gundlach, and Tadeusz Chmaj

Phys. Rev. D 92, 124044 (2015) - Published 21 December, 2015

The authors perform a numerical experiment on the critical collapse of a scalar field in a 2+1 dimensional asymptotically AdS space-time. They identify the relevant critical exponents and make significant advances in identifying the critical solution, which they show is well approximated by an appropriate continuation of an existing solution.

Critical phenomena in the aspherical gravitational collapse of radiation fluids

Thomas W. Baumgarte and Pedro J. Montero

Phys. Rev. D 92, 124065 (2015) - Published 29 December, 2015

Gravitational critical collapse describes the scaling of the mass of the black hole as a function of the difference of a parameter from its critical value. When above this critical value, collapse leads to black hole formation with the mass exhibiting a characteristic (Choptuik) scaling. This careful study marks the beginning of the exploration of non-spherical (for example, spinning) collapse, which has remained very poorly understood.

They identify the relevant critical exponents and make significant advances in identifying the critical solution, which they show is well approximated by an appropriate continuation of an existing solution.

Phys.
