HIGHLIGHTED ARTICLES

Complementarity of dark matter detectors in light of the neutrino background

F. Ruppin, J. Billard, E. Figueroa-Feliciano, and L. Strigari

Phys. Rev. D 90, 083510 (2014) - Published 7 October, 2014

Neutrinos could be mistaken for dark matter by certain types of detectors, so researchers are outlining ways to differentiate the two signals.

Direct constraints on diffusion models from cosmic-ray positron data: Excluding the minimal model for dark matter searches

Julien Lavalle, David Maurin, and Antje Putze

Phys. Rev. D 90, 081301(R) (2014) - Published 15 October, 2014

Obtaining accurate transport parameters of cosmic rays is crucial for correctly interpreting indirect dark matter detection data. The paper reports a new method to constrain diffusion models using low-energy cosmic ray positron flux.

Mapping gravitational-wave backgrounds using methods from CMB analysis: Application to pulsar timing arrays

Jonathan Gair, Joseph D. Romano, Stephen Taylor, and Chiara M. F. Mingarelli

Phys. Rev. D 90, 082001 (2014) - Published 1 October, 2014

The authors describe how the formalism used to describe CMB polarisation can be used to construct maps of the gravitational-wave background using pulsar timing arrays (PTAs). While the ”gradient” part of the background can be constrained by timing sufficiently many pulsars (top panel), the ”curl” part of the background (bottom panel) is invisible to PTAs.

From rigid supersymmetry to twisted holomorphic theories

Cyril Closset, Thomas T. Dumitrescu, Guido Festuccia, and Zohar Komargodski

Phys. Rev. D 90, 085006 (2014) - Published 3 October, 2014

The partition function of four dimensional N=1 supersymmetric field theories depends on the manifold on which the theory is defined. The paper reports that a related (twisted) version of the theory can be used to compute the dependence on the background geometry and other properties more simply.

Large Nc gauge theory with quarks in high representations

Thomas D. Cohen and Srimoyee Sen

Phys. Rev. D 90, 085008 (2014) - Published 9 October, 2014

The authors study QCD-like theories with quarks in high dimensional representations. In less than four space-time dimensions, a new large N (number of colors) limit is found, in which the theories are exactly calculable: they are either conformal or confining in the infrared limit depending on whether the quarks are massless or massive.

Phys.
