Abstract
The Hamiltonian methods used to quantize spherically symmetric, dust-filled systems in general relativity are applied to the locally rotationally symmetric inhomogeneous generalizations of Kantowski-Sachs and Bianchi type-I models. As in the case of spherical symmetry, the degrees of freedom decouple. Moreover, both systems behave as if they were effectively homogeneous since inhomogeneities are "homogeneously propagated."
