Abstract

It is shown that the scaling of all three structure functions implies bounds for the mean values of $\frac{E_{μ}}{E_{ν}}$ and $\frac{Q^{2}}{2 M} E_{ν}$ . When the bounds are analyzed in view of the recent CERN data, they become so restrictive that they essentially reduce to equalities. Bounds for $\frac{Q^{2}}{2 M} E_{ν}$ are translated into bounds for the integral $\int x F_{2}^{ν N} (x) dx$ and are compared with the corresponding integral in electroproduction. Effects induced by the presence of an intermediate vector boson or heavy leptons are also analyzed.
