Abstract
A dynamical model of a resonance interfering with an inelastic background is presented. The scattering amplitude is written as a resonant term plus a unitary background. The width of the resonance is found to be a function of the background scattering amplitude. The case of two resonances interfering with each other and with an inelastic background is also studied. Implications of the model with regard to determining masses and widths of resonances and coupling constants in unitary symmetry schemes are discussed.
