Abstract

The size of the mass splittings within isomultiplets suggests that (1) the usual strong-interaction Hamiltonian needs to be modified, or (2) there are scalar fields of dimension ≤ 4 belonging to SU(3)×SU(3) representations other than (1, 1) and (3¯,3)+(3,3¯), or (3) there is a large electromagnetic renormalization of the strong interactions.
