Abstract
We consider theories in which the explicit breaking of the chiral symmetry of the energy density is of the form , where , are real constants and and are scalar densities in the representation . We propose an extension of this picture, in which the -invariant part of has the form , where is invariant and the -invariant scalar breaks in a specific way. Specifically, it is assumed that the ninth axial charge transforms into a pseudoscalar according to , where . (The parameter labels the representation.) Given this group structure, the analysis of Okubo and Mathur may be extended to find allowed domains for the symmetry-breaking parameters , , and the vacuum expectation values , , and . The positivity conditions now restrict so that the allowed domains occupy certain volumes in a three-dimensional space.
