Abstract

On the assumption that a heavy virtual photon behaves like a parton-antiparton pair when participating in the strong interaction, we predict that the total cross section for e+ehadrons, as q2, behaves like Cq4(|q2|ln|q2|)1 for spin-0 partons, and like Cq4(ln|q2|)1 for spin-12 partons, where q2 is the virtual photon's mass squared. This provides a simple, yet important test of the parton dual-resonance model for deep-inelastic lepton-hadronic scattering, proposed in a previous paper.
