Abstract

We calculate the electric dipole moment of the electron ( $d_{e}$ ) in left-right-symmetric theories. Particular attention is given to clarify the way in which the various CP-violating phases enter in the calculation and on the distinction between the cases of Dirac and Majorana neutrinos. The calculated value of $d_{e}$ can be comparable to the present experimental limit if the right-handed neutrino is sufficiently heavy.
