-Channel Helicity Conservation with -Channel Dynamics

Abstract
The compatibility of -channel helicity conservation and -channel exchanges in diffractive-type processes is examined. It is found that compatibility exists only in the infinite-energy limit. This requires specification of ratios of residue or vertex functions for -channel helicity amplitudes. Assuming these conditions are satisfied, finite-energy corrections for polarized photoproduction are calculated and found to be consistent with data at 2.8 and 4.7 GeV. Predicted values of spin-density matrix elements for other diffractive processes are given for the usual -channel analysis in unpolarized experiments.
