Anomalous Ward Identities and ω-Meson Decays

Abstract

The strong decay ωπ+ππ0 and the photopion reaction γ+ππ+π are discussed using the hard-pion current-algebra technique. We use the anomalous Ward identities for three- and four-point functions to determine the structure of the contact term, but we are not able to determine it completely. Both the ω3π and the γ3π amplitude are then expressed in terms of three parameters gωρπ, ξ (which characterizes the contact term), and δ (the parameter which appears in the A1ρπ system). We determine gωρπ from a fit to the experimental ωπ0γ decay width and use this value of gωρπ to determine the ω3π width and the ratio Γ(ωπ0γ)Γ(ω3π) for the various values of δ, ignoring the contact term. Next we estimate ξ by using the experimental decay width for ω3π and use the resulting ω3π amplitude to estimate fγ3π. We also estimate the effect of anomalous Ward identities on the π0γγ form factor and obtain the value of F(0,0,0) for b1=0 and 2b1=3y.
