Abstract

The scalar resonance $σ (740)$ may be present in pion pair production experiments at nonforward angles in the region of the $ρ$ . The consequences of this resonance in the cross section are examined in terms of the $t$ dependence of the mass suppression factor in the $ρ$ shape, ${(\frac{m_{p}}{m})}^{n (t)}$ , and the possibility of observing $ρ σ$ interference in the antisymmetric part of the cross section.
