Abstract

In an SU(3)-symmetric quark model, the production of vector mesons in high-energy PNVB collisions is investigated in the crossed t channel. We assume that the physical baryon octet is given by 8(physical)=8cosθ+8sinθ, where 8 and 8′ octets arise from 33¯ and 3 ⊗ 6, respectively. It is found that the value θ=20°, which leads to predictions in reasonable agreement with the available data on high-energy meson-baryon scattering and the photoproduction of pseudoscalar mesons, is also consistent with the available data on vector-meson production. Also, independently of the mixing angle θ, a number of sum rules are obtained.
