Increased isomeric lifetime of hydrogen-like Os192m

A. Akber et al.

Phys. Rev. C 91, 031301(R) (2015) - Published 27 March, 2015

A measurement of the lifetime of an isomeric nuclear state in 192Os on hydrogen-like ions confirms that the observed lifetime is considerably longer than that of the neutral atom. This is explained by the absence of almost all atomic electrons, thus inhibiting the internal conversion decay process. Internal conversion coefficients have been calculated for the neutral and hydrogen-like ions and show agreement with the deduced lifetimes. The experiment is significant as measurements under these conditions are difficult, and such experiments probe the atomic and nuclear boundary.

Proton-3H scattering calculation: Elastic and charge-exchange reactions up to 30 MeV

A. Deltuva and A. C. Fonseca

Phys. Rev. C 91, 034001 (2015) - Published 16 March, 2015

The authors solve the AGS 4-body equations including the long-range Coulomb interaction for p-3H elastic scattering and charge exchange at energies above the 4-body breakup threshold. Agreement with experiment confirms the results of their earlier investigation of the n-3He mirror reaction. Discrepancies in the proton analyzing power are sensitive to the choice of nucleon-nucleon interaction input and, hence, relevant for experimentally challenging reactions on 3H targets.
