Zemach moments of He3 and He4

Ingo Sick

Phys. Rev. C 90, 064002 (2014) - Published 11 December, 2014

Measurements of the muonic Lamb shift in hydrogen have created what is known as the proton radius puzzle, in which different measurements of the proton radius (using electrons and muons) disagree. New data are anticipated for a similar comparison using 3He and 4He. These data require corrections such as the Zemach moments. The author extracts these moments using an analysis of world data.

In-medium effects for nuclear matter in the Fermi-energy domain

O. Lopez, D. Durand, G. Lehaut, B. Borderie, J. D. Frankland, M. F. Rivet, R. Bougault, A. Chbihi, E. Galichet, D. Guinet, M. La Commara, N. Le Neindre, I. Lombardo, L. Manduci, P. Marini, P. Napolitani, M. Pârlog, E. Rosato, G. Spadaccini, E. Vient, and M. Vigilante (INDRA Collaboration)

Phys. Rev. C 90, 064602 (2014) - Published 1 December, 2014

Using a large set of heavy-ion collision data, the authors infer the in-medium cross sections of nucleons and their mean free paths as functions of the incident energy. These results bring new fundamental inputs for microscopic descriptions of nuclear reactions in the Fermi-energy domain.

Neutron angular correlations in spontaneous and neutron-induced fission

R. Vogt and J. Randrup

Phys. Rev. C 90, 064623 (2014) - Published 30 December, 2014

Nuclear fission generates neutrons whose correlations may reveal at which stage they appear during the fission process, whether from the fully formed fission fragments or from the scission process itself. The authors study the sensitivity of the neutron-neutron angular correlations to the parameters of their fission model, and they find that the available experimental data can be predicted without the need for any scission neutrons.

α clusters and collective flow in ultrarelativistic carbon–heavy-nucleus collisions

Piotr Bożek, Wojciech Broniowski, Enrique Ruiz Arriola, and Maciej Rybczyński

Phys. Rev. C 90, 064902 (2014) - Published 3 December, 2014

The authors suggest colliding carbon-12 with gold at very high energies. α clustering in carbon could lead to observable effects in the flow pattern of the particles emerging from the collision. This could be a new way to study clustering in light nuclei.

Dynamical coupled-channels model of Kp reactions: Determination of partial-wave amplitudes

H. Kamano, S. X. Nakamura, T.-S. H. Lee, and T. Sato

Phys. Rev. C 90, 065204 (2014) - Published 18 December, 2014

The authors develop a dynamical coupled-channels model for kaon-nucleon reactions that satisfies unitarity. The model overcomes limitations of previous approaches to study baryon resonances with strangeness below 2 GeV and their decay. The resultant amplitudes can play an important role in predicting hyperon production in kaon-nucleus reactions.

Search for time reversal invariance violation in neutron transmission

J. David Bowman and Vladimir Gudkov

Phys. Rev. C 90, 065503 (2014) - Published 29 December, 2014

The authors analyze a novel null test to search for time reversal invariance in a model neutron transmission experiment. The proposed experimental procedure involves nuclear reactions and is sensitive to the neutron-nucleus interactions. The approach could significantly increase the discovery potential compared to the limits of present experiments.

BCS-BEC crossovers and unconventional phases in dilute nuclear matter

Martin Stein, Armen Sedrakian, Xu-Guang Huang, and John W. Clark

Phys. Rev. C 90, 065804 (2014) - Published 17 December, 2014

The authors examine the phase diagram of neutron-rich nuclear matter, allowing for four competing phases. The resulting phase diagram features two tricritical points as well as crossovers from the BCS phase to a Bose-Einstein deuteron condensate plus a neutron gas. The physics of the individual phases and the transition from weak to strong coupling is traced by examining the Cooper-pair wave function and related quantities.

Phys.
