Relativistic description of nuclear matrix elements in neutrinoless double-β decay

The authors report a fully relativistic description of the 0νββ-decay matrix element from 150Nd to 150Sm based on a state-of-the-art nuclear structure model. The calculations reproduce the low-energy spectra and electric quadrupole transitions in both nuclei well. The results are promising for next-generation double-β decay experiments.

The authors determine the electrical and thermal conductivities, and the shear viscosity, of dense two-flavor color superconducting quark matter that might occur in the core of a neutron star. Their calculation sets the stage to explore ways to determine whether quark matter exists in neutron stars.

In order to understand the nature of the neutrino, a worldwide search for neutrino-less double-β decay is planned. The present paper measures the half-life for two-neutrino decay of one of a small number of nuclei that are viable candidates for neutrino-less decay. This measurement uses a powerful coincidence technique to determine the two-neutrino half-life of 150Nd, and compare it to predictions. This is an important step in enhancing the potential search for the neutrino-less mode with this nucleus.

In order to understand the nature of the neutrino, a worldwide search for neutrino-less double-β decay is planned. The present paper measures the half-life for two-neutrino decay of one of a small number of nuclei that are viable candidates for neutrino-less decay. This measurement uses a powerful coincidence technique to determine the two-neutrino half-life of 150Nd, and compare it to predictions. This is an important step in enhancing the potential search for the neutrino-less mode with this nucleus.
