Nonlinear terahertz transmission spectroscopy on Ga-doped germanium in high magnetic fields

Bence Bernáth, Papori Gogoi, Andrea Marchese, Dmytro Kamenskyi, Hans Engelkamp, Denis Arslanov, Britta Redlich, Peter C. M. Christianen, and Jan C. Maan

Phys. Rev. B 105, 205204 (2022) - Published 18 May, 2022

The authors report the observation of cyclotron resonance transitions of holes in the magnetotransmission spectra of gallium-doped germanium at low temperatures, using intense, pulsed terahertz free-electron laser radiation with a photon energy lower than the ionization energy of the Ga dopants. The spectra are very sensitive to THz intensity and provide compelling results about ionization mechanisms and saturation of Landau level transitions. The spectroscopy technique introduced here offers an exciting perspective for researching nonlinear magneto-optical processes in semiconductors.

Phonon dispersion of the organic semiconductor rubrene

Kenta Takada, Kohei Yoshimi, Satoshi Tsutsui, Koji Kimura, Kouichi Hayashi, Ikutaro Hamada, Susumu Yanagisawa, Naotaka Kasuya, Shun Watanabe, Jun Takeya, and Yusuke Wakabayashi

Phys. Rev. B 105, 205205 (2022) - Published 25 May, 2022

Although various properties of organic semiconductors are believed to be strongly related to phonons, experimental examination of the lattice dynamics of organic semiconductors has been scarce. The inelastic x-ray scattering method, supported by thermal diffuse scattering and density functional theory calculations, provides the first observation of a phonon dispersion relation of the most studied organic semiconductor rubrene. The results show strong mode mixing between intra- and intermolecular modes via the strong intermolecular bonding path.

Controlling the error mechanism in a tunable-barrier nonadiabatic charge pump by dynamic gate compensation

Frank Hohls, Vyacheslavs Kashcheyevs, Friederike Stein, Tobias Wenz, Bernd Kaestner, and Hans W. Schumacher

Phys. Rev. B 105, 205425 (2022) - Published 20 May, 2022

Single-electron pumps realized by quantum dots with tunable barriers are the most promising candidates for the direct realization of a quantized current. The current understanding of residual errors is based on the evaluation of unwanted back-tunneling of electrons to the source. Here, a control scheme for these errors is introduced by varying the ratios of the time dependence of barrier and quantum dot energy. This validates the current understanding of single-electron pumps and shows a path to improved accuracy.

Thermodynamic signature of SU(4) spin-orbital liquid and symmetry fractionalization from Lieb-Schultz-Mattis theorem

Masahiko G. Yamada and Satoshi Fujimoto

Phys. Rev. B 105, L201115 (2022) - Published 31 May, 2022

The state-of-the-art numerical simulation of the SU(4) Heisenberg model on a honeycomb lattice reveals a characteristic peak-and-shoulder specific heat behavior. The low-temperature peak is associated with a color gap, which suggests the existence of a gapped symmetric ground state in this model.

The spectra are very sensitive to THz intensity and provide compelling results about ionization mechanisms and saturation of Landau level transitions.
