The authors study experimentally the spin dynamics of a spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate under two different magnetic field regimes and discuss the competing effect of quantum fluctuations and a coherent seed. The experimental results are compared to theoretical predictions from classical, semiclassical, and quantum models.

In this paper, the authors clarify the physical significance of the two types of chirality that occur in optical beams, namely geometrical chirality (determined by the spatial distribution of the beam) and optical chirality (given by the local handedness of the electromagnetic field vectors). An experiment shows how the two types of chirality couple to each other.

The authors present a theoretical treatment of attosecond phase shifts in photoionization due to the interference of pathways involving two-photon transitions with adjacent harmonics for the special case where one of the involved states is a bound state, rather than the usual situation where both states are in the continuum. They show that this process provides an alternative way of assessing the continuum-continuum phase, which is usually closely linked to the Wigner time delay and hard to access experimentally.
