Sujit Datta is a Professor of Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Biophysics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He was previously an Associate Professor at Princeton University. Sujit received a B.A. in Mathematics & Physics and an M.S. in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008, and then his Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University in 2013. He then did postdoctoral training at Caltech. Sujit's expertise spans soft matter physics, biological physics, fluid dynamics, complex systems, condensed matter physics, geophysics, and engineering. His research has been recognized through numerous awards including the APS Acrivos Dissertation Award in Fluid Dynamics and the Early Career Award for Biological Physics Research.

Phillips is a professor of physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a condensed matter theorist whose work focuses on transport and magnetic phenomena stemming from the breakdown of the quasiparticle concept in strongly correlated and topology quantum matter. To this end, he utilizes methods from both condensed matter and string theory such as the AdS/CFT conjecture. Problems of current interest are the copper-oxide high-temperature superconductors, particularly the strange metal and the construction of exactly solvable models for superconductivity for doped Mott insulators. A primary goal of the latter is the construction of a quartic interacting fixed point for Mott physics. He is also interested in physics beyond the standard free-electron paradigm for topological states in half-filled bands. The recent experiments of quantum anomalous Hall states at 1/4 and 3/4 filling and the building of a composite fermion picture for fractional quantum Hall states in zero magnetic field in transition metal di-chalcogenide moire systems are some of his current interests. His work aims at constructing solvable models that reveal how such fractional topological states arise from intertwined strong correlations and topology. |

Thomas Schäfer, Associate EditorNuclear PhysicsNorth Carolina State University, USA Thomas Schäfer is the Wesley Doggett distinguished professor of physics at North Carolina State University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Regensburg in 1992. His work is focused on QCD, many-body effects in atomic, nuclear, and particle physics, as well as transport theory. He held postdoctoral fellowships at Stony Brook University and the Institute for Nuclear Theory in Seattle. From 1998-1999 he was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton before joining the faculty at Stony Brook University as an assistant professor in 2000. He was promoted to the rank of associate professor in 2003 and joined the faculty of North Carolina State University the same year. He was promoted to full professor in 2006. From 2000-2004, he was also a fellow at the Riken-BNL research center at BNL. Dr. Schäfer received a Fedor Lynen Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 1992, an Outstanding Junior Investigator Award from DOE in 2002, and was elected a fellow of the APS in 2006. He served on the nuclear science advisory committee (NSAC). Before joining the editorial board of Reviews of Modern Physics he also served as an associate editor of PRL. |

As an astroparticle physicist with a background in neutrino physics, she has contributed to the development of detectors and methods for multi-messenger astronomy, first with the Pierre Auger Observatory, then with the Mediterranean neutrino telescopes ANTARES and KM3NeT, with an emphasis on exploring the interdisciplinary potential of these detectors. In 2016, Véronique became a Junior Fellow of Institut Universitaire de France; she also serves on the C4 (Astroparticle) Commission of the International Union for Pure and Applied Physics. |
