The American Physical Society (APS) has appointed Dr. Randall Kamien, Vicki and William Abrams Professor in the Natural Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, as the lead editor of Reviews of Modern Physics (RMP). He takes over this role from Dr. Achim Richter, who has served as RMP’s lead editor since 2005. Dr. Kamien formerly served as an associate editor for RMP from 2006 to 2010 and begins his new role September 11, 2017.
“It is with great pleasure that I congratulate Randy and wish him and the journal many prosperous years ahead,” remarked Achim Richter, current RMP lead editor. “I still remember the good time we had when he served as an associate editor for RMP and am fully convinced that the journal will be in good hands with him on board."
“I want to welcome Randy as the new lead editor of RMP and thank Achim Richter for his service to the journal on behalf of APS and the international physics community,” said Michael Thoennessen, APS editor in chief. “As I also begin my new role at APS, I look forward to working with Randy to continue strengthening RMP’s long-held position as the leading physics review journal.”
Dr. Kamien received his Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University and went on to become a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania. His research interests center on problems in soft condensed matter theory. In addition to RMP, he has also served as an associate editor for Physical Review E. Dr. Kamien is a fellow of APS and was recently awarded the prestigious G.W. Gray Medal from the British Liquid Crystal Society.
