APS is pleased to announce that Ariel Amir has been named the chief editor of PRX Life. His tenure began on Sept. 1, 2026.
Amir is a professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he heads the Department of Physics of Complex Systems and directs the Clore Center for Biological Physics. He received his bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and his master’s and doctorate degrees in condensed matter physics from Weizmann. Prior to his role at Weizmann, Amir was a junior fellow and later a faculty member at Harvard University. He was named an APS Fellow in 2025.
Amir brings a unique perspective on the physics of living systems to PRX Life. Working at the intersection of physics, applied mathematics, and biology, his research seeks to uncover the quantitative laws that govern living systems. Using principles from statistical physics, stochastic processes, and mathematical modeling, his group is working to bridge complex molecular interactions with observable cellular behaviors and develop physical frameworks that describe how cells operate and elucidate the underlying principles.
The PRX Life team is excited to welcome Amir into this role and extends their gratitude to the journal’s interim chief editor Margaret Gardel for her service.
