Experimental structure of a negative-refractive-index lens capable of better than 1/2-wavelength resolution. The lens consists of a mesh of printed metal strips loaded with capacitors and inductors (inset) which both focus microwaves from the source (a small dipole) and amplify the weak evanescent waves that carry the details of its subwavelength features.
