Resurgence in Quasiclassical Scattering

Atomic force microscopy images of slow crack propagation on a glass surface; the images were taken 30 minutes apart and are 75 nm on a side. The crack is seen to propagate in a manner very similar to that in metals, by the growth and coalescence of damage cavities, but at a length scale three orders of magnitude smaller.
