Light emission from doubly ionized carbon atoms in a Z-pinch plasma using an ICCD spectometer. The Doppler shift from the C-III line at 229.7 nm (white line) shows the plasma's large axial velocity (~10⁵ m/s) in the Z-pinch core, as well as a shear towards its edge.
