A conducting 2D crystal sandwiched between two insulating ferromagnets forms a so-called Van der Waals spin valve. Magnetization of the top ferromagnetic layer can point in either direction while the bottom one is pinned, resulting in two different in-plane conductances. Selected for an Editors’ Suggestion.
