In an inertial confinement fusion (ICF) setup, multiple magnetically imploded x-ray sources (purple) surround a radiation-driven cavity called a hohlraum. Each compact source is magnetically isolated from the central cavity by a mesh that passes radiation. A shield (red) symmetrizes the radiation temperature of the fuel capsule (green).
