Experiment to observe the Rydberg series formed by a proton bound to an H- ion. Heavy Bohr atoms are created from a beam of H2 molecules (yellow) subjected to a two-step laser excitation process. They decay into electrons and H2+ ions (orange), which are directed by electric field pulses for subsequent detection.
