Robert Garisto (right) has been named the Managing Editor of Physical Review Letters, the world’s premier physics journal. As Managing Editor, Garisto will lead PRL’s editorial team and provide scientific direction for the journal in partnership with PRL’s Lead Editor, Hugues Chaté.
Garisto is a theoretical high-energy physicist. Since joining PRL in 1994 he has, over time, acted as handling editor for papers in half the sections of the journal. He has guided PRL’s Editors’ Suggestions and presence on social media.
Garisto received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Michigan with thesis supervisor Gordon Kane. After postdoctoral work at Canada’s national lab TRIUMF, he joined the staff of PRL. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. You can find him on Twitter @RobertGaristo.
Garisto takes over the position from Reinhardt (Reiny) Schuhmann (left), who held the position for 20 years. APS thanks Schuhmann for his service, during which PRL reinvigorated its standards, found new ways to communicate and highlight PRL content, and increased its staff in size, diversity, and cohesiveness.
