Spatial chaos in the polarization for a birefringent optical fiber with periodic coupling

Abstract
Self-induced stochastic behavior for the evolution of light along a periodically perturbed two-mode nonlinear optical waveguide is predicted. Implications for recently demonstrated all-optical switching using birefringent fibers are discussed.
