Abstract

Single-component plasmas are found to exhibit a reversal in the roles of cyclotron and upper hybrid resonances familiar in neutral plasmas. There is a global resonance at the cyclotron frequency ω=ΩqBmc and a local field cancellation at layers where ω=Ω1=(Ω2ωp2)12, ωp being the local plasma frequency. Thermal effects limit the amplitude of the global resonance and produce energy absorption at the ω=Ω1 layers.
