Abstract

Arising in the modeling of both magnetohydrodynamical equilibria and Alfvén-wave heating in nonaxisymmetric toroidal plasmas is a one-dimensional quadratic Hamiltonian with periodic coefficients. We establish the existence of a class of single-valued invariants and address the stability of solutions to the Hamiltonian system.
