Isospin Dependence of -wave Pion Absorption in the Nuclei

Abstract
On the basis of microscopic models for -wave pion absorption on nucleon pairs the contribution of pairs compared to pairs should be strongly suppressed. A direct consequence, not previously noted, is that the absorption widths in the pionic atoms and should be equal, aside from renormalization due to the different -atomic wave-function length scales. The width, which is not directly observable, is thus predicted to be 2.25 ± 0.55 eV. It is shown that this value is consistent with observed branching ratios for radiative capture in the mirror pair.
